Rapid City, S.D. — Western South Dakota Community Action (WSDCA) will host a 60th-anniversary celebration on June 21, 2025, inviting the public to commemorate six decades of service to low-income and vulnerable residents across South Dakota.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WSDCA’s office located at 1844 Lombardy Drive in Rapid City. Attendees can expect food, games, entertainment, building tours, and presentations highlighting success stories from the organization’s history.
Since its founding in 1965, WSDCA has provided a range of free services including community and family assistance, workforce coaching, Medicare and health insurance consulting for seniors, sustainable gardening programs, furnace repair, and home weatherization. The organization serves 15 western South Dakota counties, an area spanning nearly 30,000 square miles.
WSDCA has played a significant role in the development of several Rapid City landmarks, including Skyline Drive and Canyon Lake Park. The organization was also a key partner in frontline relief efforts during the 1972 Flood. Over the years, WSDCA has been instrumental in the creation and spin-off of other well-known community aid organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Head Start, and Feeding South Dakota.
