UPDATE from the Rapid City Police Department: The object has been deemed inert and has been recovered safely from the area. Law enforcement will be working to clear from the scene and allow affected patrons of the business to return to their vehicles. The device was determined to be the expended remains of a commercially available smoke/confetti device typically used in celebrations. Safety will always be our number-one priority and we appreciate everyone’s patience as first responders worked through the incident. We are also thankful for the SD Division of Criminal Investigation’s explosives detection resources.
Rapid City, SD – Eye witnesses report law enforcement presence at the Rapid City Sam’s Club. The Rapid City Police Department reports that a suspicious object located in the parking lot of 925 Eglin Street at around 12:30pm. A perimeter has been formed around the area as a precaution while additional explosive detection resources wait to arrive on scene.
Sam’s Club employees report that the store is open and running as normal.
