RAPID CITY, SD—The Rapid City Public Library Board of Trustees recently confirmed Sean Minkel as interim director of the Rapid City Public Library as officials continue search efforts for a permanent selection to the position.

Minkel has nearly 18 years of experience with the Rapid City Public Library, serving as assistant director since 2015 and previously as customer and technology services librarian from 2008 to 2015. He also served in positions with the Holbrook Library at Ellsworth Air Force Base for six years.

“As assistant director for more than a decade, Sean understands the goals and mission of the Rapid City Public Library, which is to provide an array of services, materials, programs and resources to the general public, offering customer-friendly experiences, whether it’s through the comfort of our physical facilities or the convenience of our bookmobile and online options,” said Emily Tupa, Library Board chair. “We are very confident in Sean serving as interim director during the search process.”

Minkel holds a Masters of Library Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota Mines.

Since late September with the departure of former director Terri Davis, Minkel has been guiding day-to-day operations at the library in his capacity as assistant director. The City of Rapid City is currently accepting applications for library director.
