Part-Time Journalist Wanted: Morning News & Sports
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Part-Time Journalist to join our team at The Rapid City Post.
This role is perfect for a self-starter and problem-solver who is passionate about local news and the Rapid City community. You’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to our daily operations, including publishing press releases, investigating local stories, and attending press conferences. You’ll also be a key part of our coverage of local sports.
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and a knack for finding a good story. Bonus points if you’re connected to the Rapid City community, have experience with photography, and are social media savvy.
This position is based in our Rapid City office, and some travel within the Black Hills region may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Publishing and editing incoming press releases
- Researching and investigating local news stories
- Attending and reporting on press conferences
- Covering local sports games and events
Qualifications:
- Proven writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and a positive attitude
- Knowledge of the Rapid City and Black Hills community is a plus
- Photography and social media experience is a plus

Mass Communications & Journalism Internships, Rapid City Post (2026)
Are you a college student majoring in mass communications, writing, or reporting? The Rapid City Post is looking for motivated and enthusiastic interns to join our team for 2026.
This internship is designed for self-starters with a positive attitude who are eager to gain hands-on experience in the world of local news. You’ll primarily focus on reporting and writing about newsworthy events in the Rapid City area.
We’re looking for problem-solvers who are ready to dive in, but skills in social media, graphic design, photography, audio recording, and videography are all huge pluses. This position is based in our Rapid City office, though some travel within the Black Hills may be required.
