RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Wisconsin man faces charges after allegedly firing a handgun into the air Tuesday night outside a Rapid City convenience store.
Police were dispatched around 10:35 p.m. on June 18 to Common Cents, located at 1821 N. Elk Vale Road, following reports of gunshots. Witnesses told officers the suspect was wearing a construction vest.
Officers later located 22-year-old Adrien Waupoose of Keshena, Wisconsin, in the parking lot of 3333 Outfitter Road. Waupoose, who was wearing a high-visibility construction vest, showed signs of alcohol impairment, according to police.
Video surveillance from the area reportedly showed Waupoose leaving the Common Cents store and then firing a handgun into the air. He was positively identified as the suspect in the video.
During an interview with a detective, Waupoose stated he discarded the firearm in a nearby field after the incident. Police were able to recover the handgun.
Waupoose was arrested and transported to the Pennington County Jail, where he was booked at 1:51 a.m. He faces charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm or Bow and Arrow (M1) and Possession of a Loaded Firearm While Intoxicated (M1).
