RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota 2025 Track and Field Season got underway Thursday with the annual West River Preview meet held in Rapid City.
On the boy’s side, Brayden Jackson of Rapid City Central was a two event winner, capturing the 100 and the 400 meters.
Jude Legner of Sturgis won the 200 meters in a time of 23.51 and Tristan Swezey of Central won the 800 meters.
Ty Petrocco of Sturgis claimed the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:28.69 and Miles Brekhus of Rapid City Stevens won the 3,200 meters.
Jack Day of Stevens captured both the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles and his teammate Elias Gilen won the shot put.
In other field events, Layne Bixby of Central won the discus, Levi Brant of Sturgis won the javelin, Coy Urban of Central captured the high jump and Jess Christensen of Stevens won the long jump and triple jump.
On the women’s side, Ella Bradeen of Stevens was a double-event winner, capturing both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
Avery Marler of Sturgis won the 400 meters and Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish won the 800 meters. VanDeest would also go on to win the 3,200 meters with Kira Ubence of Douglas winning the 1,600 meters.
Maya Khachikian of Stevens won the 100 meter hurdles and her teammate Sylvie Mortimer won the 300 meter hurdles.
In field events, Abigail Flanegan of Central won the shot put and Summer Marnette of Stevens won the discus.
Clare Ashley of Stevens won the javelin throw and Reese Nida of Spearfish captured the pole vault.
Addison Benson of Stevens won the high jump with Ava Holzwarth of Stevens winning the long jump and the triple jump.
