RAPID CITY, S.D. – City Parks and Recreation officials will once again turn the Jimmy Hilton Sioux Park pool over to dogs for one of the most popular summer events in the area. The 10th annual Wags and Waves fundraiser, hosted by the Humane Society of the Black Hills, is set for Sunday, August 31, from 1-4 p.m.
The event allows dogs to swim in the pool before the water is drained for the winter season. Wags and Waves is a top fundraiser for the Humane Society each year, attracting hundreds of dogs and their caretakers from across the community.
The event will include dog-friendly pool time, a photo booth, and a VIP sponsor swim. A $10 donation per animal is requested at the gate. All proceeds and sponsorships will go toward another year of caring for animals at the Humane Society of the Black Hills. The public is also encouraged to drop off donations of pet food.
The fundraising goal for this year is $25,000. The funds support the care of more than 5,000 animals, covering needs such as food for dogs, cats and exotic animals, as well as medical expenses and overall care.
A few rules apply to the event: dogs must be under their owner’s supervision and control at all times, humans cannot go in the water above their knees, and owners are asked to pick up after their pets.
