LEAD, S.D. – First responders in the northern hills say one person was hurt following a U.T.V. accident south of Lead.
The Lead Fire Department says at approximately 11:39 AM on Friday, August 22, they were dispatched to an area between Powder House Pass and the Mickelson Trail south of Lead for a reported UTV accident resulting in injuries.
Firefighters, along with members of Lawrence County Search and Rescue, Monument Health Northern Hills Ambulance, and the Bureau of Land Management, worked to locate the patient using given coordinates. Once the patient was located, first-aid measures were performed, and due to the extent of the injuries, Black Hills Life Flight was requested.
Firefighters from the LVFD, with help from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, set up a landing zone at a nearby mountaintop. The patient was transported via a single-wheel Stokes basket from the scene to the landing zone.
Lead Fire says their 2023 Polaris Ranger was crucial today. With its ability to navigate remote locations along less-than-ideal roads or trails, it transported essential personnel with ease.
Lead Unit: RON 1 responded to the incident.
Assisting agencies were Black Hills Life Flight, Northern Hills Monument Health Ambulance, Lawrence County Search and Rescue, Bureau of Land Management, and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
