Two receive life-threatening injuries in I-90 crash

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Two individuals sustained life-threatening injuries Friday in a single-vehicle crash near mile marker 90 on Interstate 90, with the vehicle coming to rest on 173rd Avenue below the overpass. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

According to officials, the eastbound vehicle lost control on I-90 before leaving the roadway and landing on 173rd Avenue. Both the driver and passenger suffered critical injuries.

The passenger was transported by Life Flight to Monument Health in Rapid City. The driver was transported to Monument Health by ambulance.

Responding agencies included the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Rapid City Fire Department, New Underwood Fire Department, Wall Fire Department, Life Flight, and Pennington County Search and Rescue.

Further details will be released as the South Dakota Highway Patrol’s investigation progresses into the crash.
