WALL, SD — This morning, for causes that are still being investigated by South Dakota Highway Patrol, an SUV carrying two passengers struck a median crossing and went airborne, rolling into the median of the I-90 Interstate, landing back on its wheels upon settling.
Following this, emergency services responded quickly, with Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Wall Volunteer Fire Department, Wall Ambulance and Rapid City Fire Department all responding to the accident in quick succession.
Following retrieval of driver and passenger, both were “Transported to Monument Health by Life Flight and Rapid City Fire Department,” according to a statement from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Department. The cause of the accident is still unknown, as is the current status of the passengers.
UPDATE: Reports from South Dakota Highway Patrol confirmed this morning that the driver of the vehicle involved in this accident suffered fatal injuries and has died. The passenger of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.
