Free open swim at Horace Mann, Parkview with donation to Cornerstone Mission
RAPID CITY, SD—With school starting next week, City Recreation officials are hosting ‘Goodbye Summer, End of Summer Bash’ events at two of the three outdoor city pools this Saturday.
The Horace Mann and Parkview pools will close for the season at the end of the day Saturday. The End of Summer Bash events include free open swim with a donation of items to the Cornerstone Mission. An emphasis on donated items include food items such as Italian dressing, ranch dressing, cream of mushroom soup, salsa, barbecue sauce, gift cards to Walmart, men’s hats, men’s gloves and t-shirts.
“The End of Summer Bash events are a great way to end the summer season,” said City Recreation Specialist Teaghan Slagle. “It’s a final day to swim with friends at the Parkview and Horace Mann pools, while also helping the community.”
The final day of operations for the summer at the Jimmy Hilton pool at Sioux Park is Saturday, August 30. There is no End of Summer Bash event scheduled at the Hilton Pool, however the facility will again serve as host for the upcoming Wags and Waves event in partnership with the Humane Society of the Black Hills. The event provides a swim event for canines and will be held Sunday, August 31 from 1-4 p.m. at the Hilton Pool at Sioux Park.
Rapid City Recreation officials also remind the public the Roosevelt Park Swim Center’s indoor facility will be closed beginning this Sunday through Labor Day for annual maintenance. The facility’s 50-meter outdoor facility will remain open during the indoor facility’s closure and is scheduled to close for the season September 20, weather permitting.
