Rapid City – The Stars came out swinging on Tuesday night. In the top of the first inning, Max Schoenhard grounded into a fielder’s choice, bringing Teagen Sayles home and giving Post 320 an early 1–0 lead. It was a promising start for the visitors and a strong statement in this classic rivalry.

However, the Hardhats quickly responded. In the bottom half of the first inning, Lars Kieffer tripled down the right field line to score Aiden Roberts. Wyatt Reeder then grounded out, bringing Kieffer home and putting Post 22 ahead 2–1.

“We started with Rowan Fredrickson on the mound.” said Post 22 Head Coach Kelvin Tore. “He didn’t have his best stuff, but he competed and managed to make big pitches when it counted. It was fun to watch him compete.”

Fredrickson pitched six innings for the Hardhats, allowing just one unearned run while striking out six batters. He escaped multiple jams thanks to timely strikeouts and solid defensive support, including a double play that stopped a potential Stars rally.

Both teams battled defensively for the next couple of innings until the third, when the Hardhats extended their lead. Wyatt Reeder was hit by a pitch and scored, followed by a daring steal of home by Aiden Roberts that really energized the crowd. Roberts’ overall performance was impressive, as he successfully stole five bases during the game, showcasing his speed and danger on the basepaths.

Offensively, the Hardhats came alive in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring six combined runs in those frames. Lars Kieffer scored on a hard grounder by Wyatt Reeder, who then crossed home plate on a line drive from Jace Morgan. Carter Johnson also added a run due to an error by Post 320’s second baseman, Anders Lockhart.

“In the fifth and sixth innings, we finally started swinging the bats like we’re capable of,” Head Coach Tore said. “We pushed some runs across.”

By the end of the sixth inning, the Hardhats held a strong 10–1 lead.

Still, the Stars did not go quietly. In the top of the seventh, Ayden Byrd tripled to right field, bringing Max Speed home. Max Schoenhard followed with a line drive to center, allowing Ayden Byrd to score. While it was a late push, it provided the Stars with something to build on for their next matchup.

Schoenhard and Byrd led the Stars at the plate with two hits each, combining for all three of the team’s RBIs. Pitcher Kason Kostenbauer went 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) while striking out two batters.

Meanwhile, the Hardhats demonstrated aggressive baserunning, stealing six bases and keeping the Stars’ defense under pressure throughout the game.

Despite the fact they won the game 10-3, the Hardhats Head Coach acknowledged that the team didn’t play as expected. “We didn’t play our best baseball,” said Tore. “However, we did compete.“

Post 320 will return home to face Sturgis Post 33 on Friday. Post 22, fresh off this victory, will head to Sturgis on Wednesday before taking on Casper this weekend.
