RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association (BH&B) will kick off the 2025 tourism season with its 42nd Annual Literature Swap on Tuesday, May 6, at The Monument, Rushmore Halls C & D.
The day begins with the BH&B Parks & Attractions Meeting from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., where regional tourism leaders will share updates, highlight new developments, and preview upcoming events.
The Literature Swap follows from 2 to 4 p.m., offering tourism professionals a streamlined way to exchange brochures, magazines, and marketing materials. These will be distributed to South Dakota Welcome Centers along I-90 and I-29, helping businesses prepare for the busy travel season.
“This event helps us gear up to welcome millions of visitors whose spending supports our communities, businesses, and way of life,” said Michelle Thomson, BH&B President/CEO.
Held during National Travel & Tourism Week, the Swap underscores tourism’s impact on the region. In 2024, visitors spent $1.9 billion in the Black Hills and Badlands—38.5% of South Dakota’s total visitor spending—and supported over 21,000 jobs. Statewide, tourism brought in $5.09 billion, saving each South Dakota household an estimated $1,105 in taxes.
Attendees can also stock up on 2025 South Dakota Vacation Guides, Black Hills maps, and connect with BH&B Corporate Partners offering business services.
