SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sanford Medical Center Fargo and Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls have again been named the top hospitals in North and South Dakota, respectively, in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings. For the fifth straight year, Sanford USD Medical Center was recognized as the No. 1 hospital in South Dakota.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings are designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care, evaluating nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide across 15 adult specialties and 21 adult procedures and conditions.
Sanford USD Medical Center was deemed high-performing in two adult specialty areas, gastroenterology and urology. The hospital also earned a “high-performing” rating in 11 common procedures and conditions, including hip and knee replacement, back surgery, and treatments for various cancers. Sanford Health has a strong presence in the state and the Black Hills region, with a number of clinics and services, including a laboratory in Rapid City.

Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, was rated high-performing in geriatrics and 15 procedures and specialties, including heart and orthopedic-related conditions. Sanford Bismarck Medical Center was nationally ranked for cardiology, heart & vascular surgery.
