
CHADRON, NE – The Sturgis Post 33 Titans wrapped up a successful weekend at the Chadron Wood Bat Tournament, going undefeated and beating Spearfish Post 164 by a score of 5-3 on Sunday to earn the tournament title.
Post 33 jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning after Ethan Cermak and Drew Janke scored following Spearfish errors, then Elijah Stroud singled, scoring Aidan Wood.
The Spartans plated a run in the bottom of the third when Jack Scharf scored on a single by Walker Viessman to make the score Sturgis 3, Spearfish 1 headed into the fourth inning.
Post 164 rallied in the bottom of the fifth and trailed 4-3, but the Titan defense held strong and kept the lead. Post 33 added one insurance run in the top of the sixth to get the 5-3 championship victory and their seventh straight win.
Aidan Wood earned the complete game win for Sturgis Post 33. The right hander gave up three hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two. Jack Branum took the loss for Spearfish Post 164. The starter went three innings, surrendering three runs on five hits, striking out seven Titans.
Sturgis (10-11) pounded out 10 hits in the game and were led by Stroud, Dalyn Dschaak, and Ethan Cermak, who each collected two hits for Post 33.
Post 164 (7-10) had three hits in the game, two from Tucker Olson and one from Viessman.
The Titans and the Post 33 Missiles are in action next on Wednesday at Strong Field as they take on the Casper, WY Post 2 junior varsity. The Missiles play at 5pm and the Titans at 7pm.
