Rapid City Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Aggravated Assault
RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for aggravated assault, domestic violence. Matthew Hade, 30, was found guilty following a trial that took place in May of this year. Hade’s sentence will run consecutively to a 27-year sentence Hade previously received in Meade County for violating his probation from a prior rape conviction. Hade was found guilty of assaulting his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend when she confronted him about communicating with an ex-girlfriend.
Red Ribbon Week Kicks Off in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. — A ceremony to kick off Red Ribbon Week in Rapid City was held yesterday. The event was moved indoors to the Minneluzahan Center from Dinosaur Park due to the weather, where local teachers and students gathered to share some remarks as well as reading the annual Red Ribbon Week proclamation. Additional events include the unveiling of the winning poster to be made into a billboard on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Main and Elm, a family ice-skating event on Saturday 1:30–3:15 p.m., spirit and decoration day on Thursday, as well as local businesses offering discounts to students wearing a red ribbon during this week.
Yard Waste Disposal Sites Remain Open in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Community residents are reminded the remote yard waste disposal sites at Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North are open and available for discarding of many yard waste materials. When dropping off materials at the remote yard waste sites, place materials inside the containers and not on the ground. As a reminder, curbside yard waste will end Friday, November 28 and the last day for the yard waste containers at the remote sites will be Sunday, November 30. After November 30, all yard waste must be taken to the landfill.
Governor Signs Waiver to Support Harvest Fuel Transport
PIERRE, S.D. — Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed Executive Order 2025-09 granting an hours-of-service waiver for propane and other liquid products being transported through South Dakota associated with the ongoing harvest. The 14-day order exempts delivery of gasoline or gasoline blends, diesel, fuel oil, ethanol, propane, jet fuel, and biodiesel from federal motor carrier regulations regarding drivers’ hours of service. The waiver will address supply shortages being reported in the state by residents and businesses. The executive order expires at midnight on November 10th, 2025.

U.S. President Donald Trump is meeting with Japan’s newly elected, ultraconservative leader in Tokyo. The meeting comes on one of the busiest days of his Asia trip, which will include speaking to U.S. troops aboard an aircraft carrier and mingling with business leaders. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi may look to build a personal connection with Trump to ease trade tensions. Trump spent Sunday in Malaysia as part of his ongoing trip through Asia to discuss mostly trade with world leaders, aiming to highlight America’s influence on the global economy.

Suspects arrested over the theft of crown jewels from Paris’ Louvre museum
PARIS (AP) — Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of crown jewels from Paris’ Louvre museum. Officials announced the arrests on Sunday, a week after the daring heist. One suspect was caught at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to leave the country. The theft, which took less than eight minutes, involved jewels valued at 88 million euros. Investigators from a special police unit made the arrests. The Louvre reopened earlier this week after the high-profile theft stunned the world.
