First Measles Case of 2025 Reported in South Dakota
PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota Department of Health is reporting the first measles case of 2025 in a South Dakota resident.
An adult in Meade County developed a measles infection after traveling internationally. The measles patient visited several public locations, and persons who were in the same settings are asked to self-monitor for measles symptoms for 21 days.
Community members may have been exposed to measles during the following times and locations:
- Rapid City Medical Center Urgent Care waiting room (2820 Mt Rushmore Road, Rapid City, SD) — May 28, 2025, from 7:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. MT
- Monument Health Sturgis Urgent Care waiting room (2140 Junction Ave, Sturgis, SD) — May 29, 2025, from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. MT
Rapid City Police Investigating Man Shot in Foot
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police are investigating a weekend incident in which a man sustained a bullet wound to his foot.
Police were dispatched to 1720 N. 7th Street on Sunday and rendered emergency first aid to the man until he could be transported to the hospital.
Police say they have received conflicting witness statements about where the shooting occurred and how the shooting happened. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
Rapid City Launches First-Ever Parks and Recreation Master Plan
RAPID CITY, S.D. — For the first time ever, the City of Rapid City’s Parks and Recreation Department is developing a city-wide Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
As part of the plan’s development, Parks and Recreation will host two open houses in June for the public to ask questions and share feedback.
The open houses are scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at Main Street Square in downtown Rapid City from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., and at Canyon Lake Park during Family Food Truck Night from 5–7:30 p.m.
Both events will be hosted by City staff and members of the consultant team and will provide information and activities for community members to participate in.
Rapid City Police Investigating Gunshot Into Apartment
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police responded over the weekend to Atlas Street for a report of a gunshot.
The reporting party stated they had heard the gunshot and located a bullet hole on the floor of their apartment. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunshot.
On arrival, police attempted to make contact with the adjacent apartment to ensure there were no injured parties inside. Entry was forced into the apartment, but no one was located inside. The case is under investigation.
Human Remains Believed to Be Missing Hot Springs Man Found in Fall River County
PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that a search conducted in Fall River County has led to the discovery of human remains believed to be those of Matthew Marshall of Hot Springs, who disappeared in July 2024.
Marshall, 28, was last seen on July 24, 2024, in Hot Springs and was reported missing by family on August 4. Multiple searches have been conducted by local law enforcement and partner agencies over the last 10 months.
Jackley said the investigation into the death is ongoing but that foul play is not suspected.
Rapid City Police Investigating Report of Shots Fired at Vehicle
RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Sunday night, Rapid City Police responded to 220 College Avenue for a report of gunshots heard in the area.
It was reported a dark-colored passenger vehicle pulled up to the address and fired several shots. Another witness stated it was a pedestrian who fired shots at the vehicle.
The area was searched, but no shell casings were located. No injuries have been reported to police as a result of the incident, and police continue to investigate the report.
Pierre Woman Charged with Falsifying Medical Marijuana Card
PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that a Pierre woman has been charged with four counts of falsifying her own medical marijuana card while employed by the South Dakota Department of Health.
Alexandra Feiner, 24, faces several charges, including forgery, possession of a forged instrument, and falsification of public records. Authorities allege she avoided both the medical provider certification requirement and the associated fee.
Suspect Posed as Gardener in Boulder Attack, Planned to Kill All in Group He Called ‘Zionist’
BOULDER, COLO. — Authorities say a man posed as a gardener before launching an attack in Boulder with Molotov cocktails that injured 12 people.
The man is accused of throwing incendiary devices into a group gathered to bring attention to Israeli hostages in Gaza. The FBI says the man, Mohamed Soliman, told police he had planned the attack for a year and specifically targeted what he called the “Zionist group.”
An FBI affidavit says Soliman confessed after being taken into custody Sunday and told police he would do it again. The affidavit was released in support of a federal hate crime charge filed by the Justice Department on Monday.
‘Lilo & Stitch’ Passes ‘Sinners’ to Become 2nd Highest Grossing Film of 2025
HOLLYWOOD — “Lilo & Stitch” has once again placed first on the box office charts.
According to studio estimates Sunday, the hybrid live-action Disney movie added $63 million in domestic ticket sales. With $280.1 million total, it surpassed “Sinners” to become the second-highest grossing film of the year.
Second place went to “Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning” with $27.3 million. Newcomer “Karate Kid: Legends” opened in third with $21 million. “Final Destination: Bloodlines” landed in fourth place with $10.8 million in its third weekend, while the new horror movie “Bring Her Back” rounded out the top five with $7.1 million.
