So far, Texas state officials have reported 124 cases in this latest outbreak. New Mexico has reported nine. According to the World Health Organization, measles caused an estimated 107,500 deaths globally in 2023. Most were among unvaccinated people or children younger than five. Cases were most common in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia where healthcare is inadequate and incomes are low.

But French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said Thursday that he, too, has been in talks for months with his Ukrainian counterpart about accessing minerals that are vital for defense and other future technologies. He said France could possibly purchase the minerals from Ukraine and isn’t seeking them as a way to recoup the billions of euros in military and other aid.
Hamas hands over bodies of 4 hostages to Israel as dozens of Palestinians leave Israeli prison

The handover happened early Thursday, and a Red Cross convoy carrying dozens of released Palestinian prisoners left Israel’s Ofer prison, just days before the first phase of the ceasefire was to end. Hundreds of other prisoners were to be sent to Gaza. Israel had delayed the release of over 600 Palestinian prisoners since Saturday to protest what it called the cruel treatment of hostages during their handover by Hamas. The militant group has called the delay a “serious violation” of the ceasefire and said talks on a second phase aren’t possible until the Palestinians are freed.
