South Dakota Highway Patrol Reports No Fatalities, Two Serious Injuries During Rally

STURGIS, S.D. — The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported no fatalities in their latest rally report, but did report two accidents with serious injuries. The two accidents were on Highway 14A in Boulder Canyon and on I-90 at Spearfish. The accident in Boulder Canyon involved a rider who lost control of his bike after failing to negotiate a curve and was airlifted to Rapid City. So far this year, the patrol has reported 41 injury crashes and 14 non-injury crashes.


Sturgis Police Report Increased D.U.I. and Drug Arrests, Fight Calls, and Illegal Parking Citations

STURGIS, S.D. — Sturgis Police reported 6 D.U.I., 4 misdemeanor drug arrests, and 4 felony drug arrests in their daily rally report. Police also responded to 3 fight calls and handed out 17 citations for illegal parking Tuesday. Police have made 52 non-traffic related arrests year-to-date and 79 traffic-related arrests. Police say 76 people have been booked into the Meade County Jail.


South Dakota DCI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting and Hostage Situation

PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting and hostage situation that occurred Tuesday night in Haakon County. The incident began on the Cheyenne River Reservation, where 31-year-old Schace Wayne Looking Horse led authorities on a pursuit related to a weapons call. It spilled over into Haakon County, where Looking Horse was eventually shot after taking a hostage at gunpoint. The hostage suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The law enforcement officers were not injured. This is the sixth Officer Involved Shooting in South Dakota this year.


Rapid City Police Search for Stolen Vehicle with Loaded Gun Inside

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City police are searching for a vehicle with a loaded gun that was stolen Tuesday night. Police say the Jeep SUV was stolen in downtown Rapid City. The owner said they left the Jeep unattended, with the key fob and a loaded handgun inside. Police are reviewing security footage from the area and continue to investigate.


Rapid City Man Arrested After Huffing and Crashing Stolen Car

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 35-year-old Rapid City man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly huffing air duster while driving a stolen Buick LeSabre and crashing into multiple vehicles near Rushmore Crossing. Witnesses reported the erratic driving around 4:40 p.m. and provided a license plate, leading police to the vehicle in Box Elder. Trent Richardblakey was found in the car and taken into custody. He faces charges including Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Reckless Driving. He was booked into the Pennington County Jail at 8:05 p.m.


Shirtless Man Arrested Near Jerry’s Donuts After Threatening Officer

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man was arrested Tuesday evening after causing a disturbance near Jerry’s Cakes & Donuts on Omaha Street. Police say 47-year-old David Lonewolf was reportedly trying to fight people and threatening to throw rocks. He was found with an open container of alcohol and arrested for Failure to Vacate and Open Container in Public. While being transported to jail, Lonewolf allegedly threatened the officer and was charged with Threatening Law Enforcement. He was booked into the Pennington County Jail at 7:28 p.m.


South Dakota AG Warns Public of Scam Involving Fake ICAC Officer

PIERRE, S.D. — Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning the public about a scam involving text messages falsely claiming to be from the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). One reported case involved a Connecticut man who was contacted by someone posing as “Sgt. Walker,” a non-existent officer, and was told to pay $1,000 after texting with someone who was allegedly a minor. Jackley emphasized that law enforcement will never demand payment or threaten arrest by text. Similar scams have also falsely claimed individuals were caught on porn sites. Victims are urged to contact the Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986 or visit https://consumer.sd.gov/.


Trump May Meet Putin Next Week to Discuss Ending Russia-Ukraine War

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump may meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week in an effort to broker peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, according to a White House official. While no date or location has been set, the White House also said Trump is open to meeting with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. If confirmed, this would mark Trump’s first in-person meeting with Putin since returning to office. Speaking to reporters, Trump called the chances of a summit “very good” but offered no timeline for a potential peace deal, saying only, “I’ve been disappointed before with this one.”


ChatGPT Gave Teens Dangerous Advice on Suicide, Drugs, and Eating Disorders

New research from the Center for Countering Digital Hate reveals that ChatGPT gave disturbingly detailed responses to prompts from researchers posing as vulnerable 13-year-olds, including instructions on drug use, eating disorders, and suicide notes. While ChatGPT often initially warned against risky behaviors, it frequently followed up with tailored plans for harmful actions. The watchdog group classified over half of 1,200 chatbot interactions as dangerous. OpenAI acknowledged the concerns and said it is working on improving guardrails and detecting distress in users, particularly as younger teens increasingly rely on AI for companionship and advice.


ESPN is acquiring NFL Network, rights for RedZone in a deal giving the NFL a stake in the network

The NFL has entered into a nonbinding agreement to sell NFL Network and other media assets to ESPN. The league will receive a 10% equity stake in ESPN in return. The deal still requires a final agreement, the approval of NFL owners and regulatory clearance. ESPN plans to include NFL Network in its upcoming direct-to-consumer service. The NFL will continue to own and produce the RedZone channel but will allow ESPN to distribute it. NFL Fantasy Football will merge with ESPN Fantasy Football. Viewers are unlikely to see changes until next year.
