Shooting Homicide Shakes Rapid City Neighborhood
RAPID CITY, S.D. – An adult male is dead following a shooting Wednesday evening at an apartment complex on East Watertown Street in Rapid City. Police responded to reports of gunshots around 7:15 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 200 block of E. Watertown Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds inside an apartment. Police provided first aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple individuals were taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities believe the incident was not a random act.
The police have stated that this incident does not appear to be connected to another ongoing homicide investigation involving Nicholas Selig, who is a person of interest in the shooting death of Vernon Selig.

Authorities Seek Suspect in Pennington County Homicide
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a 30-year-old man wanted in connection with a homicide in Pennington County.
Sheriff’s officials say Nicholas Selig is a person of interest in the shooting death of his father, 57-year-old Vernon Selig. Investigators found his green Kia Soul abandoned near Clarkson and Victoria Lake roads. The manhunt is focused on the wooded area.
Selig was last seen dressed in all black, including a brimmed hat, and is considered armed and dangerous. Officials are asking residents in the area to review their home security footage for possible sightings.
Jackley Joins Push to Curb Harmful AI Content for Kids
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined a bipartisan coalition of 44 attorneys general urging major tech companies to better protect children from harmful artificial intelligence.
The group’s letter accuses companies such as Meta, Google, and OpenAI of allowing AI platforms to engage in sexual roleplay with minors. Examples cited include a chatbot that engaged in a sexual scenario with a test user identifying as a 14-year-old girl.
The attorneys general said they are “uniformly revolted” and argue the companies have a legal obligation to safeguard their youngest users.
Rapid City Student Bus Ridership Jumps 12 Percent
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid Transit officials say student bus ridership in Rapid City surged on the first day of school.
Youth passenger trips increased 12 percent this year compared to last, continuing a decade-long trend of growth under the Youth Ride Free program.
The initiative, now in its 10th year, allows students to ride buses for free to school, work, and activities. Last academic year, the program set a five-year record for total youth ridership.
PUC Approves Filing Fees for Proposed Wind Farm Near Philip

Report: U.S. Bomber Involved in Two Near Misses Over North Dakota
MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A U.S. Air Force bomber involved in a flyover at the North Dakota State Fair nearly collided with two aircraft last month, federal investigators say.
According to a National Transportation Safety Board report, Delta Flight 3788 narrowly avoided colliding with a B-52 bomber near Minot in July. Afterward, the bomber came within a third of a mile of a Piper private plane.
The Delta close call was previously known after a passenger recorded the pilot’s announcement, but the second incident had not been reported until now.
Shooter Kills Two Children at Minneapolis Catholic School Mass
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two children were killed and 17 people wounded when a shooter opened fire during mass at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, police said.
Authorities say the attacker, armed with a rifle, fired through church windows during the first week of school at Annunciation Catholic School. The victims were 8 and 10 years old, and 14 other children were among the wounded.
Police believe the shooter, described as being in their early 20s, acted alone and died by suicide. Officials are investigating a possible motive.
