Black Hills, S.D. — The Black Hills Playhouse will be debuting the third play of Season 79, Waitress: The Musical. This play runs from July 20 to August 3 and features 15 performances. The Black Hills Playhouse was chosen for the regional premiere of Waitress and is the first company to produce the musical in South Dakota.
A great story with incredible music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Sara Bareilles (“Love Song”, “Brave”), Waitress is the hit musical that’s “a little slice of heaven” (Entertainment Weekly) and features a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I am Sam).
“The story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage, is a well-crafted and beautifully written musical”, according to BHP Artistic Director, Dan Workman.
The Pay-What-You-Can performance for Waitress: The Musical will be held on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Keep in mind that the Pay-What-You-Can performance is the final dress rehearsal for the performers and technicians before the show officially opens. Plan to arrive early, as this is expected to be a well-attended preview performance, and seating is first-come, first-served.
An Artist Reception will also be held on July 20 after the 2:00 pm opening matinee. Audience members are invited to enjoy refreshments and appetizers and have the opportunity to meet the cast and crew who bring this story to life.
