Teen charged in accident shooting death makes court appearance

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 17-year-old charged in an accidental shooting death made his first appearance in Seventh Circuit Court on Tuesday morning.

Isaiah Taha is charged with first-degree manslaughter, grand theft, possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor and obstructing law enforcement.

The charges come after Taha allegedly shot and killed 16-year-old Kade Potter inside a vehicle near Deadwood Avenue and Omaha Street with a stolen gun Friday night.

The Pennington County State’s Attorney’s office has yet to determine if the youth will be tried as an adult. He could face up to life in prison if charged as an adult.

Taha’s next court appearance has not been set.
