PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Spearfish man for the shooting death of his wife.

The state’s highest court said a Lawrence County jury was correct when they found Dreau Lester Rogers guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife Destiny.

Prosecutors said Rogers fatally shot Destiny in the couple’s home on January 22 of 2022.

Rogers claimed another man, Donovan Derrek, was at the house that night, and he was the one that pulled the trigger.

In addition to the second-degree murder conviction, Rogers was also convicted on other counts and was sentenced to life in prison.
