Sturgis Police seeing high number of fight, disturbance calls this year

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Police reported a busy Wednesday in their latest rally report.

Police made 3 arrests for assault, 2 for disorderly conduct, 4 for misdemeanor drug possession and responded to 5 fight calls.

Police Chief Geody Vandewater says they also responded to 4 domestic disturbance calls, 7 D.U.I. calls and handed out 15 illegal parking citations.

He says they also had 7 license plate or registration violations Wednesday.

Police also had one injury accident call, at the intersection of Lazelle and Avalanche Road.

Year-to-date, illegal parking, D.U.I., drug arrests and fights have seen the highest numbers.

Vandewater reports 52 non-traffic arrests and 79 traffic-related arrests since Friday. There have been 76 people booked into the Meade County Jail.

Meanwhile, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office reported 66 traffic stops in their latest reporting period.

Deputies made 5 D.U.I. arrests, 4 drug arrests and booked 44 people into the Meade County Jail.
