STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council got a gloomy sales tax report for the month of March at their meeting last night.
Sales in the month of March 2025 were 17.9% lower than March of 2024. However, Sales for the first three months of 2025 were 8.4% higher than the same period in 2024.
City Administrator Aaron Jordan:
The 2025 budget estimated total sales tax revenue in the general account using the 2023 total equaling $2,622,333. Through March 2025, sales tax revenue is up 1.6% from same period in 2023.
A three-month trend would appear to put the 2025 total at or above 2023, however, with the significant decrease in March 2025 vs March 2024, it’s difficult to determine the sales tax trend for 2025.
For the Triple B, or Tourism Tax, or the month of March 2025, these tourism related sales were 14.5% lower than Marach of 2024.
Sales for the first three months of 2025 were 3.8% lower than in the same time period in 2024. The adopted 2025 budget assumes a total collection of sales tax revenue of $473,488 that is $1,063 lower than 2024.
