
STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Council members got another not so rosy sales tax report last night as Sturgis City Administrator Aaron Jordan says the June report was 18.84-percent lower than June of 2024
Sturgis City Administrator Aaron Jordan says sales in the month of June 2025 are 18.84% lower than June of 2024. Sales for the first six months of 2025 are 2.52% lower than in the same period in 2024, and 1.97% lower than in 2023. Though YTD is lower than 2024 and 2023, it is higher than any other year before 2023.
As for the Triple B, Jordan says “1% sales tax is imposed on specific purchases such as lodging, eating establishments, alcoholic beverages and admissions to places of amusement as well as athletic and cultural events. For the month of June 2025, these related sales are 20.30% Lower than June of 2024. Sales for the first six months of 2025 are 13.45% lower than in 2024, and 15.91% lower than 2023. The BBB is lower in 2025 than any other year since 2021.
Jordan, however, is still optimistic with the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally looming, he’s hoping those numbers will get turned around.
