STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council approved entering into a Professional Services Agreement with J.E.O. Consulting Group for the development of a Safe Streets and Roads for All Safety Action Plan.

Known as an SS4A, it is a program within the Federal Highway Administration aimed at eliminating fatal crashes and significantly reducing severe injury crashes related to the city’s street system. Sturgis Public Works Director Rick Bush says development and adoption of the plan will position the city to apply for implementation funding through the Federal Highway Administration in Quarter 1 of 2026.

The city received proposals from six firms and the City’s Infrastructure Advisory Committee reviewed the submissions, before recommending the J.E.O. Consulting Group.

In 2023, Sturgis was awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for All planning grant in the amount of $160,000 with a $40,000 local match.
