STURGIS, S.D. – Aviation enthusiasts gathered at the Sturgis Airport Saturday morning for their annual fly-in.

Sturgis Director of Communications Deb Holland says pilots from all across the region brought their airplanes in this year.

Along with a wide selection of airplanes, attendees also enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs.

The Sturgis Airport is seeking monumental growth and because of that, some much needed improvements are coming.

They include renovation of the airport terminal and construction of a parallel taxiway.

Terminal renovation is estimated to cost $495,000 with 95% of the cost paid by the Federal Aviation Administration and 2.5% covered by the state.

The taxiway is estimated at $5.575 million with the F.A.A. and state picking up 97.5% of the cost.
