RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Area School District shared a post from Rapid City Stevens High School Thursday about the posting of an inappropriate image on social media.
The post from Stevens, located on their Facebook page, said they were aware of a photo posted on one of their team’s social media accounts. It said the image was “not appropriate or aligned with our school’s values.”
The post went on to mention the photo was promptly removed as soon as it was identified.
Staff at Stevens High say they are addressing the situation internally and using it as an opportunity to learn and ensure it is not repeated.
Although the district did not go into details about the photo, it did say “we sincerely apologize to our Native American families and to the community for the post.”
The school’s post stated “our goal of addressing this is not to combat hurt with hurt; therefore we hope the community will do the same to support us in our effort.”
The post concluded by saying “our focus remains on making Stevens a welcoming environment that acknowledges all students for their value as individuals, where they are educated and prepared with the skills to be successful in life.”
