FLANDREAU, S.D. – On Thursday, a status hearing for Joseph Hoek, the man accused of killing Moody County Chief Ken Prorok back in February of 2024, took place at the Moody County Courthouse.
Hoek is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated alluding.
Hoek’s trial is currently scheduled for October 14th after being rescheduled multiple times. His attorneys asked that the trial be delayed in order to hire more experts to assess mental health issues in the case.
The state is seeking the death penalty.
There is a motions hearing is set for June 30 where the parties involved will resolve the questionnaires that will be sent out to Moody County residents.
Jackley said the court has decided on sending out 350 questionnaires to potential jurors.
