State High School Finals Rodeo heating up

FORT PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota State High School Rodeo Finals continue in Fort Pierre.

In action last night, Arina Haugen of Sturgis leads the pole bending points race with 42 after the first go. Haugen turned in a time of 21.017 Thursday and leads Creighton’s Emmy Moon by 5 points. Whitewood’s Tava Sexton is third. Haugen is also fifth in the goat tying standings with Sohie Hruby of Hemingford at the top of the leaderboard.

Haugen is also doing well in the barrel racing, where she sits second after the first go. Brooke Diedrichs of Wall leads the points standings with 41. Diedrichs is also second in the breakaway, with Martin’s Madilyn Waln in first place.

In the bareback, Talon Ping of Highmore leads the points while Taos Weborg of Gregory had the top ride Thursday – a 71.

Rylan Elshere of Elm Springs leads the saddle bronc standings after the first go. Jace Grimes, who turned in a 71 point ride Thursday, is second.

Thor Fish of Buffalo Gap is on top of the steer wrestling and Drake Boomsa of Box Elder leads the points in the tiedown.
