SPEARFISH, S.D. – The city of Spearfish will phase out its public safety director position with the retirement of current director Pat Rotert in June, according to a news release.

The city’s chief of police and fire chief will then report to the city administrator.

City administrator Bobby Falcon said in the news release that the public safety director was created in 2019 to move departments forward. They are now able to be under the oversight of the city administrator, Falcon said in the news release.

Code enforcement, which currently falls under the police department, will remain unchanged, as will building inspections that reside under the planning department.
