Shots Fired Leads to Drug, Gun Arrests in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police in Rapid City arrested two people and recovered multiple firearms and illegal drugs after an early morning shooting in Rapid City on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Officers with the Rapid City Police Department were dispatched at about 1:35 a.m. to the 100 block of E. Signal Drive for multiple reports of gunshots. Witnesses told police they saw a male subject exit a residence, fire several shots from a rifle, and then go back inside.

Police found several shell casings at the location. No injuries or property damage caused by the gunfire have been reported to police.

The subsequent investigation identified 41-year-old Brian Knutson of Rapid City as the suspect. Knutson was located and arrested on charges of aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.

In conjunction with the shooting investigation, a search warrant was executed on two residences in the 100 block of E. Signal Drive with the assistance of the Rapid City-Pennington County Special Response Team. Law enforcement recovered several firearms, illegal drugs and related paraphernalia as a result of the search.

Following the search, 28-year-old Leslie Bartlett of Rapid City was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a place where drugs are kept, sold or used.
