
RAPID CITY, SD — Police have released the names of both the victim and the suspect in a deadly weekend shooting in Rapid City.
Seventeen-year-old Omariraine Red Bear is charged with First-Degree Murder in connection with Saturday morning’s (May17, 2025) shooting on Wood Avenue, on Rapid City’s north side.
Red Bear is being held in the Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center.
He’s accused of killing 33-year-old Dakota Britthouer, who died at the hospital.
Police say the two knew one another and that the shooting was not random.
“Red Bear’s identification as the suspect in this homicide and his apprehension are a testament to the dedicated and diligent work of officers and deputies assigned to the case,” said Capt. Christian Sigel, commander of the Rapid City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division. “We will not let violent acts like this one become normalized in our community.”
The investigation continues and police ask that anyone with information about the shooting call them at 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
