RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police say dozens of officers and deputies of both the RCPD and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office have worked through the night, and into the morning, in an effort to locate for Nicholas Selig.
Police are searching for him as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of 57-year-old Vernon Selig. Authorities say Vernon is Nicolas’ father. The body of Vernon Selig was found dead of a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon in the area of Victoria Lake Road and First Thunder Road, just outside Rapid City.
Nicolas Selig’s last known location was in the area of Highway 16 and Gondola Road, and law enforcement continues to expand their search in the area.
Residents with homes in this area are encouraged to ensure their residences are secured, and to be vigilant for any suspicious activity in the area.
Selig is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

Authorities say the location of Nicholas Selig remains a top priority for both the RCPD and the PCSO, and a large number of law enforcement resources have been committed to the ongoing search for him.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an apparent homicide that occurred Tuesday.
Authorities say at around 4:30 p.m. on August 26th, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office responded the area of Victoria Lake Road and First Thunder Road, just outside Rapid City, for a report of a deceased individual with a gunshot wound. That individual has since been identified as 57-year-old Vernon Selig of Rapid City. During the subsequent investigation, law enforcement has determined his death to be a homicide.
Police are currently seeking 30-year-old Nicolas Selig (his son) as a person of interest in the investigation. Authorities say Nicolas is believed to be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. He is believed to be in the area of Highway 16 and Gondola Road. A large law enforcement presence is in this area, actively searching for him. Residents in this area are advised to secure their homes.
