South Dakota’s attorney general says recent inmate deaths don’t appear to be from natural causes.
Right now, three deaths are under investigation — one from February, and two just days apart last week. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the latest cases involve inmates Jason Garreau and Joshua Arrow, both found unresponsive in their cells in Sioux Falls.
Early signs point to possible overdoses. Families of inmates are now speaking out.
Linsey Sapp, whose husband is incarcerated, says change is needed inside the prison and is helping organize a protest Friday afternoon calling for better conditions.
So far this year, eight inmates have died in South Dakota prisons which is already more than all of last year.
