Scooper Softball Team Defeats Golden Eagles

ABERDEEN, SD – Avreigh Long drove in five runs on three hits to lead Sturgis to a 10-5 win on Saturday over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles.

The Scoopers had an 10-0 lead after 5 1/2 innings. Long smashed a home run to left field in the first inning, scoring two, doubled in the fourth, scoring two, and doubled in the third inning, scoring one.

Aberdeen Central scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Addison Ward hit a solo home run to right field, Aliyah Torigian singled, scoring one run, Kaylee Kiesow singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Neither team scored in the seventh inning and Sturgis held on for the win.

Abby Tweedy earned the win for Sturgis, surrendering three hits and no runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking seven. Jayna Johnston appeared in relief for the Scoopers.

Kiesow took the loss for the Golden Eagles. The starting pitcher went five innings, surrendering eight runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking one.

The Scoopers collected 10 hits in the game. Long and Tylee Bestgen each pounded out three hits for Sturgis.

The Golden Eagles had eight total hits and were led by Kylee Hoffmann with three hits in five at bats.

The Scooper girls travel to Spearfish on Monday to take on the Spartans. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30pm.
