Scooper Boys Soccer Squad falls to Cavaliers in OT

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers playoff run was halted on Saturday, as the Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers battled back from a one-goal deficit to beat Sturgis, 2-1 in overtime on a windy afternoon in the second round of the state soccer playoffs.

Scooper forward Jaxon Dodson put Sturgis up 1-0 with 7:50 left before the half on a long shot from the left sideline that got past the Cavalier goalkeeper.

Jefferson answered just 3:59 into the second half with a header from the left side of the goal that got past Scooper goalkeeper Oliver Kristiansen. The goal tied the score at one goal each.

Neither team could score in the remainder of regulation time, sending the playoff match into overtime.

Just :57 seconds into the first 10-minute overtime half, Cavalier forward Oakley McMillan beat Kristiansen on a low shot to the left corner of the goal to give Jefferson a 2-1 lead.

Sturgis head coach Tyler Louder threw every offensive set at the Cavalier defense until the final whistle of the second half of overtime, but the Scoopers couldn’t find the back of the net, giving Sioux Falls Jefferson the 2-1 overtime win.

The Scoopers finish with a ln 11-4-1 record. The Cavaliers improve to 12-1-2 and move on to face Sioux Falls Christian on Wednesday in the semifinal round of the State Soccer Tournament.
