Scooper Baseball Team Blanks Cobblers

RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scooper baseball team earned a 10-0 shutout over the Rapid City Central Cobblers on Saturday night at McKeague Field.

Sturgis got on the board in the first when Brody Royer smacked a two out double, scoring Tate Johnson and Carter Williams.

The Scoopers took advantage of Cobbler mistakes in the top of the second inning, plating four more runs. Sturgis added two runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh to get their third win of the season, 10-0 over Rapid City Central.

Elijah Stroud earned the complete game win for Sturgis, allowing only two hits and no runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Laken Uttecht took the loss for Rapid City Central. Uttecht went five innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits, striking out eight and walking two.

The Scoopers collected 11 hits, with Royer leading Sturgis with a hot bat, going 3-for-4 at the dish. Royer doubled in the first inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning. The Scoopers stole 14 bases and turned two double plays in the game.

Sam Farnsworth led Rapid City Central with two hits in three at bats.

The Scoopers (3-8) travel to Spearfish for their next game on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
