SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State Athletics and Head Coach Grayson DuBose announce the hiring of Sadie Bacon to be the new volleyball assistant coach. She is DuBose’s first staff hire since taking over the head coaching position earlier this year.
Bacon will be starting her coaching career at Black Hills State after spending the last four years playing volleyball for Eastern Washington University, where she was coached by DuBose for her last three seasons in Cheney, Washington.
“I am excited that Sadie decided to join the staff,” DuBose said. “Just starting out in the coaching profession, Sadie will be learning the game from the opposite side of the court. She brings a lot of practical knowledge to the gym, and I am looking forward to having her share that with our team. You want to be around good people, and Sadie is one of the good guys.”
Bacon played all four seasons as an eagle. She finished her career with almost 600 kills, and 243 total blocks. In her sophomore season she had 177 kills in only 91 sets while reaching more than 50 total blocks. Her best year was in her junior season when she had a career high of 181 kills and a career-high 83 total blocks. Finally in her senior season, she had 148 kills with 78 blocks. She had 16 kills in one game versus South Dakota State during her sophomore season which ended up as a career high, while the most blocks in a game were nine versus Western Kentucky. She earned Big Sky All-Academic Honors in two of the four years.
“I’m excited to begin my first coaching job as the new assistant coach at Black Hills State University,” Bacon said. “Working alongside Grayson is a great opportunity, and I’m looking forward to learning from him while also bringing my own energy to the team. I hope to support the players and help them grow both on and off the court as they develop as athletes and individuals.”
The new assistant coach attended Eastern Washington University from 2021-2025 and graduated this past May with a degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice.
