RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Badlands Sabres continued their winning ways, defeating the Sheridan Hawks 4-2 on Saturday at the Roosevelt Ice Arena, completing a weekend sweep against their rivals. The win improves the Sabres’ record early in the season.
The Badlands Sabres started strong, with a goal from Gavin Marx, assisted by Maddox Harn, just 3:37 into the first period. The Hawks quickly answered, knotting the game at 1-1 before the first intermission.
The second period saw the Hawks take the lead at 18:04, but the Sabres responded with a crucial late goal. Justin Reams, assisted by Matthew Cordis and Maddox Harn, found the back of the net with only four seconds left in the period, tying the score 2-2.
The third period saw the Sabres take control. Wyatt Pink, assisted by Dayton Niedert, broke the tie at 2:06. The Hawks, trailing by one goal late in the game, pulled their goalie with 1:59 remaining. Cole Schneider sealed the victory for the Sabres with an empty-net goal, also assisted by Dayton Niedert.
Following the victory, fans had the opportunity to skate with the players. The Badlands Sabres will now hit the road for games in Great Falls, Montana and Gillette, Wyoming. The next home game for the team will be Saturday, September 20 against the Gillette Wild at 7:05 pm at the Roosevelt Ice Arena in Rapid City.
