RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Rush, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, have signed veteran Swedish defenseman Alexander Stensson for the 2025-26 season. The signing marks the 28-year-old’s first season playing professionally in North America.
Stensson brings a wealth of experience, having played 247 professional games in Europe. He spent seven seasons in Sweden’s third-tier professional league, HockeyEttan, and played last season in Hungary. Dave Smith, Rush head coach and general manager, said Stensson is an “all-situations player” who brings grit and extensive professional experience.
Stensson is the second Swedish player to join the Rush for the upcoming season, alongside Rasmus Ekström. This will be the first time in team history that the Rush roster features two Swedish players in the same season.
