In front of a crowd of 2,989 at the Monument the Rapid City Rush lost 3-4 to the Kansas City Mavericks.
First period action saw Rapid City take the lead early. A Briley Wood (Pilon, Olson) goal at 16:39 set the pace. Rush captain Ryan Wagner ( Bernard ) at 11:36 brought it home taking the Rush to a two goal lead. At 8:13 Mavericks McCollum ( McLaughlin, Janicke)i lit the light.
Rapid City’s two minute high sticking call on Chyzowski at 5:19 followed by Bernard’s minor boarding call only 14 seconds later handed Kansas City the five on three. Crawford ( Randl, Carpenter) happily took the advantage to score. The first period ended tied at 2.
The second period saw even gains. At 12:32 for Rapid City Smedsrud (Wood, Russell) and for Kansas City a soul effort by LaMaster.
Kansas City took the lead at 14:42 McCallum (Janicke,McLaughlin). Rapid City’s only chance at a power play came at 6:35 from a minor hooking penalty on Cotton. A goal at 5:49 went under review immediately. The officials deemed no goal for Rapid City. LaFontaine saw 30 shots for Kansas City. Sergeev saw 39 shots for Rapid City.
