RAPID CITY, SD – The Roosevelt Park Ice Arena in Rapid City is temporarily closed to the public until at least July 7, 2025, following a mechanical issue with its main condenser unit. The failure occurred Friday, affecting the system responsible for maintaining the ice.
Ice Arena officials announced the closure via social media on Friday night. The affected condenser unit was already slated for replacement in July, with a new unit ordered and anticipated to arrive this week. However, due to the unexpected breakdown, the facility will remain closed until the new unit is delivered and fully installed.
All programs scheduled at the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena during this period have been canceled, and private user groups have been directly notified. For those needing to pick up skates, the Ice Arena office will be open Tuesday through Friday this week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents of Rapid City and the Black Hills area seeking updated information on the closure, reopening dates, and schedule changes are encouraged to visit the Ice Arena’s Facebook page or call 605-394-6161.
