RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 20-year-old Rapid City man was arrested Saturday night after a robbery and vehicle theft, aided by a unique piece of evidence left behind-a pair of headphones with a tracking feature.
According to a news release from the Rapid City Police Department, officers responded to a robbery report in the 400 block of E. Anamosa Street around 9:00 p.m. on Sept. 6. The victim told police that an unknown male entered his parked vehicle, brandished a rifle, and then drove off with the car.
The victim was able to track the vehicle’s location using the tracking feature of headphones that had been left inside. Police located the vehicle near the intersection of 6th Street and Main Street and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Devyn White Pipe, 20, of Rapid City. Officers found a rifle and a vape pen containing hash wax inside the vehicle. The victim was brought to the scene and positively identified White Pipe as the suspect.
An investigation determined that several items in the vehicle, including the rifle, had been taken during a residential burglary on E. Anamosa Street.
White Pipe was arrested and booked into the Pennington County Jail. According to jail records, he faces multiple charges, including robbery in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, grand theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, commission of a felony with a firearm, and driving without a valid license. His bond is listed as none, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 9 at 10:00 a.m.
