RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Area Schools say they are seeking input on whether or not the public would support a referendum to address long-standing facility needs.
This comes after a public vote in 2020 to deny a bond referendum aimed at funding facility upgrades.
RCAS says after engagement with the community since then, it has put together a new plan they hope would have greater community support. RCAS says it addresses their most urgent facility issues, including HVAC and security concerns, while coming in at a significantly lower cost than the previous proposal.
The district is hoping it will align with what the community is willing to support.
RCAS is conducting a community-wide survey to gather feedback. The input will guide the next steps in our facility planning and ensure that any future proposal is rooted in community priorities. The survey is being administered by School Perceptions, an independent education research firm, to ensure all responses remain confidential.
RCAS officials will accept comments until August 20th. Survey results will be shared at an upcoming school board meeting and made available on the District’s website.
