RC Stevens Advances to High School Baseball Class A State Tourney

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 8th-ranked Rapid City Stevens Raiders advance to the South Dakota High School Baseball Association Class A State Tournament after defeating the 9th-ranked Mitchell Kernels in a rubber match late Saturday afternoon, 11-6.

In Game 1 on a quiet Friday evening, Rapid City Stevens overwhelmed Mitchell, 14-3. The key moment for the Raiders came at the bottom of the third inning as Rapid City Stevens scored seven runs on six hits.

The Kernels tied the super regional series 1-1 on a pleasant Saturday afternoon in Game 2, defeating Rapid City Stevens, 5-4. The game was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Mitchell’s Landen Soulek singled, resulting in the winning run to cross home plate. Rapid City Stevens capitalized in Game 3 as the Raiders ended the Kernels’ season with an 11-6 win.

Rapid City Stevens (15-8) advances to the SDHSBA Class A State Tournament in Sioux Falls, which starts on May 23. The Raiders will be the 7th seed and will play #2 Sioux Falls Lincoln
