WATERTOWN, S.D. – Both Rapid City Post 22 and Post 320 saw their season come to an end yesterday at the State Legion Baseball Tournament.
After shocking Rapid City Post 22 in the opening game, the Stars dropped their second game of the tournament to Yankton yesterday and were eliminated.
Yankton Post 12 advanced to the championship with a 6-1 win over the Stars.
The Stars outhit Yankton 6 to 4, but couldn’t muster any runs to keep with the Bucks.
Noah Wald and Colton Mehlhaff helped lead the Stars with two hits each.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Rapid City Post 22, a favorite to win it all this year, were eliminated on a 7-3 loss to Harrisburg Gold.
The Gold Squad scored all 7 of their runs in a dismal second inning for the Hardhats.
Post 22 wraps up one of their best seasons in decades. Their 59 wins were the most since the 2007 season.
Harrisburg and Yankton are set to meet Saturday at 1 p.m. at Watertown Stadium. Post 45 needs just one win for the title, while Post 12 would need two to claim the crown.
