RAPID CITY, SD — In June, thousands gathered in Rapid City and millions nationwide in response to a single call: That in the United States, we do not have kings, and never will. Now, the organization which brought together people from all over the nation are calling for a second event.

The first “No Kings” protest came as a nonpartisan response to actions by the Trump Administration. According to 5051’s official handbook, they hold that the Administration has  ‘continued to attack our civil liberties, take illegal and unconstitutional actions, and gut the public services we pay for with our taxes”. The organization emphasizes peaceful action and the defense of the constitution, and calls for government action to “End Executive Overreach”.

Such upcoming protests are, as previously mentioned, nationwide. At Rapid City’s previous demonstrations, an estimated 1,000+ participants arrived to show their support for these goals, bringing signs and blaring music at city hall. However, those not used to repeated events like this may be confused by this upcoming event. With this in mind, I spoke to Alexandra Miller, a student activist studying to be a social worker, and representative of 50501’s Rapid City Branch, who said “The October 18th national day of action, “No Kings Day” is a follow-up to the first No Kings Day, when over 5 million people drowned out Trump’s birthday parade with protests in every state and across the globe. Now, Donald Trump has doubled down – invading Washington, D.C., Chicago, Memphis, and Portland, arresting hard-working immigrants without warrants, gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them the most, rigging election maps, and using the FCC to silence his critics. We cannot stand silently by and watch these things continue to happen in our communities”.

At these protests, an emphasis was placed on the safety of protestors, and Alexandra wished to emphasize as well that these actions are non-violent in nature and lawful demonstration in-line with constitutional freedom of assembly. “For first-time attendees, we suggest coming prepared by knowing your rights. If you don’t, we will have ‘Know Your Rights’ cards to give away on the day of the event. Dress comfortably, stay with a group if possible, and bring water. Most importantly, come with a peaceful mindset and respect for the community and the voices around you. Remember – these are PEACEFUL, non-violent demonstrations”.

Rapid City Organizers are expecting a strong turnout “Reflecting the nationwide momentum of the No Kings movement”. The event is scheduled for 11am on October 18th, 2025, and is set to be located at City Hall
