Rapid City Offices to Close for Labor Day

RAPID CITY- City of Rapid City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The closure affects several city facilities and services in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The Rapid City Landfill, Rapid Transit System, Rapid City Public Library and The Monument will all be closed on Labor Day.

Trash collection scheduled for Monday will be moved to Tuesday. All other collections from Tuesday to Friday will remain on their regular schedule. Residents are advised to leave their trash out until it is collected.

RapidRide and Dial-a-Ride services will not operate on Monday and will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The Rapid City Public Library will also be closed on Sunday, Aug. 31, in addition to Labor Day Monday.

The Rapid City Council meeting scheduled for Monday has been moved to Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. A second special session on the proposed 2026 City budget is also scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m., just before the regular council meeting. Both meetings are open to the public.
